Are you going to using the same engine for all these games -- Torque, correct? AFAIK GarageGames has supposedly died, so I was kinda hoping you switch to Unity or something.

If ever you make a near-perfect clone of the Tales realtime battle system, drop me a note (on the email tied to this account) since I would be really interested in licensing your framework/engine... just adding my own 3D assets, music, character portraits, and story dialogue (of course it's not as easy as that, but way easier than hiring a studio to code a JRPG engine from scratch).

As far as any other indie studios making non-retro JRPGs, you're pretty much the only one. (I've seen Aphelion mentioned for XBLIG but it looks to be a PRE-RENDERED, not true 3D JRPG -- same as the type I'm working on right now, and I'm really struggling with choppy animations.

It seems that JRPGs, unless they're retro 8/16 bit for nostalgia sake, are not really that popular even in the indie scene. So the few people who actually respect the genre (yes, by playing I see you have TONS of respect for the mechanics/gameplay) must band together.

Precisely. We're going to look at Unity next and look at the possibilities of porting this game to other platforms. While we move to Unity, I'd also like to re-write our core system into one that can be used across platforms and re-used in future episodes and similar RPG franchises in the future.

As for a Tales clone, I'd actually prefer to stay with non-realtime battle systems, because I want to go really deep on team control and strategy. In Tales, you essentially set up the characters well and control one character until you need healing, but I want to make a system with complex abilities that are fit for different situations - one that I haven't seen for many years. In Revenge of the Bitch, there is a need for proper character setup and strategy, especially in late game. In most situations you need to think 2 steps ahead and worry about your spells being interrupted, or time your Slam so you can land a Breaker ability in time.

Of course, I'm not saying my system is better. It's a design choice I made. I wanted to experiment with bringing some mechanics from MMO like tanking and spell interruption into a turn-based RPG - and it worked pretty well, so we're going to stick with it.

Also, I chose the JRPG presentation approach because JRPGs is the worst offender for recycling stories for the young teenage audience. Making a parody in JRPG format would create something most unusual, and being unusual is the top priority here.

Option 2) I honestly think this would turn out to be a mindless game that will be overshadowed by other strong competitors in the gaming mobile industry, I don't think you should invest into this idea.

Option 3) Now this plot is perfect and sounds really interesting, I think most other people would agree. However there is one thing I do not like about this (its a personal preference), it is tower defense. I really hate those kind of games ><.

Number 4, no question. Reason 1 is that I'm an RPG man, and I'd like to stick to this genre for your games. Reason 2 is that I hate to leave a story unfinished, and I gather that MLRotB ends partway through the quest (haven't actually beaten it yet).

IMO 2) sounds the most lucrative, and might be a nice change of pace to work on after this one.

Whatever helps the saga of Mark Leung and the world of Untitled being finished - I hate unfinished stories, although this would put ROTB in one league with Twin Peaks.

Number #3 could be a great spoof on Final Fantasy Tactics. FFT and FFT Advance have shortened uncounted commutes to work for me and I would love to have such a strategy title for a mobile device.

Although I haven't finished this first game yet, definitely a sequel. An iPhone app relating to the Mark Leung series would be awesome too, but I'd prefer it to be simple and less time-frustrating compared to this current MMO/RPG that's out right now. And just a consideration I wanted to add, I like the idea of putting both MMO concepts into a strategy turned based RPG system, but I think it might be somewhat cooler if the characters, sprites and all, maybe even map layout, to be 2d. I don't mean a 2d type of RPG game like Seiken Densetsu series, but more like "Ragnarok Online". The Sprites are 2d, but the environment is 3d and you are able to move around freely as if you were a 3d sprite. The 2d sprite (in Ragnarok's case is somewhat anime style, which still looks great imo) has many different angles to change from as you rotate the map, still making your characters' looking natural. Because honestly, I play RPG's for the story alone unless the battle system really is fun and great (and I say that because I hate missing SO much in MLRotB, it's hard to level with the little time I have). I think having 2d concept characters in game time would be interesting even to those who wouldn't play this game because they think it's "unusual."

And although Ragnarok Online is not a turned based MMO, I think you could make it so that it is. Such as MLRotB is as currently now, where you see the monsters and have a chance for a preemptive strike, you can do the same in RO's environment and still have 2d characters in your own kind've environment background for turn-based battle, almost like Xenogears for the Playstation as accurately as I can describe it.
